Synopsis

This course discusses knowledge and skills regarding: Introduction to Direct Current Motors, which includes: Checking DC Motor Name Plates, Direct Current Motors without load and Motors with load starter; Use of Brushes in DC Motors, which include: Brush with commutator and compensation coil, Brush Spark without compensation winding, and Brush Spark without commutation; DC Motor Loading, which includes: Load Characteristics, Speed Settings, Field Current Settings; and Braking with Eddy Current, which includes: Series Motors, Shunt Motors and Compound Motors. To achieve the objectives of this course, the learning process is carried out in the form of lectures, discussions and practice in workshops.

Author Biographies

Deitje Sofie Pongoh, ST, M.Pd , Manado State Polytechnic

Deitje Sofie Pongoh, ST, M.Pd was born in Tomohon on December 16 1964, completed elementary education (SD) in 1978, Tomohon 1 Middle School in 1981, Tomohon State High School in 1984 and started studying Diploma 3 at the Faculty Engineering at Sam Ratulangi University, Department of Electrical Engineering) and graduated in 1990. Continuing his undergraduate studies in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Hasanuddin University, Makassar (Concentration in Electrical Power Engineering), he graduated in 1995 and completed his Masters in Educational Management at Manado State University, graduating in 2008.
The author worked his way up as a CPNS at Sam Ratulangi University and was placed at the Manado State Polytechnic as an Instructor since 1991 and was appointed as a lecturer in 1996. The author teaches Electric Power Distribution Systems, Protection Systems, Protection Systems Practicum, Distribution Systems Practicum, Electrical Machine Practicum with a Quality Management System (QMS). The author was also an IATKI administrator in 2004 - 2009 as treasurer.

Julianus Gesuri Daud, ST, MT, Manado State Polytechnic

Julianus Gesuri Daud is an educator at the Manado State Polytechnic who works in the Electrical Engineering Department. Completed his Master of Engineering (M.T.) education in 2008 at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya majoring in Electrical Engineering – Power Systems Engineering. Graduated as a Bachelor of Engineering at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya on March 21 1997, Electrical Engineering - Power Systems Study Program. The courses that have been effective so far are Power Distribution Systems, Power Systems Analysis, Distribution Systems Practicum, Energy Conversion Practicum, Protection Systems Practicum. Participated in assessor training in the distribution sector in 2004 in collaboration with IATKI (Indonesian Association of Electrical Engineering Experts) with the Electrical Engineering Department ITB Bandung and also in the professional association served as Secretary of the North Sulawesi IATKI DPW for the period 2004 – 2009.

Arnold Robert Rondonuwu, SST.M.Pd , Manado State Polytechnic

Arnold Robert Rondonuwu, SST.M.Pd was born on November 3 1964 in Airmadidi village, North Minahasa district, North Sulawesi. He is an alumnus of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Control Systems Study Program, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Apart from teaching, he is active in several professional organizations such as the Indonesian Engineers Association PII and the Indonesian Electrical Power Experts Association IATKI. He served as Secretary of the Electrical Engineering Department of the Manado State Polytechnic (2004-2008). He is busy writing several textbooks with the titles: Electrical Machines 1, Electrical Machines 2, Power Transformers and Industrial Control Systems which have been published. He is also experienced and is a practitioner in several industries, in this case CPO palm oil processing factories, etc. Has teaching experience since 1992. Currently in daily activities at the Manado State Polytechnic campus as teaching staff in courses: AC Electrical Machines, DC Electrical Machines, Control Systems, Energy Conversion Practices and Electrical Power Distribution and Power Transmission Systems.

Leony Ariesta Wenno, S.T., M.Eng , Manado State Polytechnic

Leony Ariesta Wenno, S.T., M.Eng was born in Ambon on November 17 1989, completed elementary education (SD) in 2000, junior high school in 2003, high school in 2006. Started undergraduate studies at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Sam University Ratulangi (Concentration in Electrical Power Engineering) in 2006 and graduated in 2011. Then he continued his Masters studies at the Master of Engineering Program, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Gadjah Mada University (Concentration in Electrical Power Systems) in 2013 and graduated in 2015. The author has worked at the North Halmahera Regency Regional Planning and Development Agency in 2017 – 2021 as a Regional Planning Analyst and then became a Civil Servant Lecturer at the Manado State Polytechnic, Electrical Engineering Study Program from 2022 until now. The author attended the International Seminar on Intelligent Technology and Its Applications, Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE as a Presenter in 2015 at ITS Surabaya.
