Synopsis

This textbook is intended specifically for students in semester 1 (one) of the Applied Road and Bridge Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, Department of Civil Engineering, Manado State Polytechnic. To be able to understand the contents of this textbook, no special requirements for mastery of other subjects are required.
This textbook is structured systematically, where each section/topic is for one or two face-to-face meetings in class with a time of 2 x 50 minutes, and each topic contains learning objectives, introduction, topic explanation and summary. To evaluate students' level of understanding of the given topic, it is carried out in the form of practice questions and formative tests. Readers are guided to follow each topic starting from the learning objectives to the summary.
The material in this book contains an introduction to building materials, namely natural stone, asphalt, ceramics, wood, bamboo, paint, plastic, building materials that have undergone changes, environmentally friendly building materials, concrete work materials, road work materials, bridge work materials and Dynamics of Materials Technology. Through the descriptions in this book, students are expected to be able to understand the properties, types, specifications, quality requirements of construction materials as well as developments in material technology that are currently developing.
This textbook can be used as a reference and tutorial material for students or related practitioners.

Dr. Sandri Linna Sengkey, ST., MT , Manado State Polytechnic

Dr. Sandri Linna Sengkey, ST., MT Born in Toli-toli on April 19 1968. Completed Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering at Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. and in 2021, he will complete his Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering at Hasanuddin University. Since 2001 he has been teaching at the Manado State Polytechnic with the courses taught being Concrete Engineering, Materials Testing Laboratory I, Concrete Technology, and Soil Mechanics 2. Writing a book on Civil Engineering Professional Ethics and carrying out research in the field of Concrete Materials.

Dr.Ir. Geertje Efraty Kandiyoh, ST, M.Eng , Manado State Polytechnic

Dr. Ir. Geertje Efraty Kandiyoh, ST, M.Eng Born in Girian Atas, Bitung, North Sulawesi, 11 July 1968. Started his career as an Educator at the Manado State Polytechnic Department of Civil Engineering in 1997, Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering at Sam Ratulangi University Manado with the title Thesis on Economic Review of Airport Development Sam Ratulangi Manado, Master of Project Management at Victoria University Melbourne Australia, with the title Thesis: Assessment of Risk Allocation in Construction Industry in Indonesia, in 2021 completed the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering with the title Dissertation: Models and Strategies Successful Government and Business Entity Collaboration on the To Manado-Bitung Road Project and in 2022 completing the Professional Engineer Program at Sam Ratulangi University. Courses taught: Statistics and Probability, Engineering Economics, Professional Ethics and Construction Management. In developing human resources, the author took part in management management training for the establishment of the Manado State Polytechnic Professional Certification Institute (LSP) in 2013-2016 and contributed to writing articles for national and international seminars.

Dr.Ir. Sherley Runtunuwu, ST, MT , Manado State Polytechnic

Dr. Ir. Sherley Runtunuwu, ST, MT Born in Tomohon on September 3 1967. Completed Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. Masters education at Trisakti University Jakarta, and Doctoral education at Brawijaya University Malang. Since 1997 he has been teaching at the Manado State Polytechnic with the subjects taught being Research Methodology, Wood Structures, Construction Management I, II and III, Building Cost Estimation and Construction Safety and Health (K3). Wrote books on Wooden Structures, Research Methodology, Civil Engineering Professional Ethics and carried out research in the field of regional planning.
