Synopsis

The hospitality industry is a rapidly growing service sector and plays a vital role in the economy, especially in countries that rely heavily on tourism. Beyond the services offered, hotel operations involve a variety of jobs and activities that pose potential risks to the health, safety, and security of employees and guests. Therefore, the implementation of Occupational Health, Safety, and Security (OHS) is crucial for maintaining the well-being of all parties involved in the hotel environment.

In daily operations, hotel staff are involved in a variety of activities, from kitchen management and housekeeping to public facility management and guest service. Each of these areas carries different risks, such as workplace accidents, physical injuries, exposure to hazardous chemicals, and the risk of fire or natural disasters. Furthermore, hotel guests also have the right to receive safe and comfortable service without worrying about potential hazards that may occur during their stay.

The implementation of OHS in the hospitality industry aims to create a safe work environment, minimize the potential for occupational accidents and illnesses, and ensure the safety of guests and employees. In Indonesia, the implementation of OHS in this industry is regulated by laws and regulations that require companies to ensure that occupational health and safety standards are met. However, in practice, many hotels do not fully recognize the importance of effective OHS management, either due to a lack of knowledge, resources, or management attention to this aspect.

The main challenges in implementing OHS in the hotel industry include a lack of employee and management awareness, the lack of adequate OHS support facilities, and suboptimal training and education regarding occupational safety and health procedures. This can lead to an increased risk of workplace accidents, decreased productivity, and a negatively impacted company image.

Based on this background, it is crucial for hotel management to understand and implement OHS as an integral part of their operations. Thus, OHS not only protects employees and guests but also plays a key role in maintaining reputation, trust, and business sustainability in the hotel sector.
